活动议程 (一)观摩公开课  

教学流程:

Teaching Objectives:

Students are expected to learn some basic information about advertising.

 to become competent in reading expository writing.

Teaching procedure:

Step I Lead-in

What is the video about?

Two students are asked to make up a dialogue talking about it.

Step II Skimming

Task 1 Styles of the writing

     A. Narration      B. Argumentation      C. Exposition

Task 2 What is expository writing?

To introduce you to basic information on a topic.

1) Introduction of the subject

2) Examples and facts that develop or support the idea

3) Conclusion

Task 3 How does this passage develop?

Structure of the passage.

Part 1 (Para.1) Introduction

Part 2 (Para.2-4) Some information about advertisements.

Part 3(Para.5) Conclusion: We must all use our intelligence and not be a slave to them.

Step III. Scanning ---Read para.2 and the answer the questions.

1. Where can we find ads?

2. What are the main types of ads?

Scanning ---Read para.3 and the answer the questions.

1. What does the author try to tell us in para.3?

Although there are laws to _______ advertisements that cheat people. We still must be aware of the skillful methods.

2. Does the ad tell the complete truth?

3. What do their ads declare?

4. What do PSAs aim to do?

Step IV Further-thinking

  What’re the similarities and differences between commercial advertisements and public service advertisements?        

Step V Group-work

Advantages of ads.

1. Provide information about latest products.

2. Increase sales by repeated advertising.

3. Cut costs of newspapers and make them cheaper.

4. Make the public aware of social problems.

 

Disadvantages of ads.

1. Mislead customers or cheat them of money.

2. Give false or incorrect information.

3. Take too much time or space on TV or newspapers.

4. Make teenagers want things that are bad for them.

Step IV Homework

1. Try to retell the text.
